Stompers Norwich Reviews

As a Colchester shopper who has used stompers for the last nine and a half years I am now facing driving to Norwich with two autistic children to get shoes that fit their narrow feet from a manufacturer that makes decent quality shoes. Yes they are a bit more expensive than clarks (who don't stock adult size 8 school shoes for boys, especially not in a narrow fit) but they last through an entire school year with boys who are heavy on their feet and drag their toes as they walk (even when we walked a mile to and from school each day). In the long run it's cheaper than buying a new pair every term. The Colchester staff were lovely and knew their stuff, and it's a real shame that the buyout of an independent department store has resulted in us losing a fantastic retailer. PLEASE COME BACK TO COLCHESTER, we will gladly come back to you if you reopen.

Excellent fitting service, SO much better than Clarks! The shoes here are more expensive than some other chain stores, but they are fitted carefully and have a huge range.

I am writing this as a resident of Colchester. We lost Stompers a couple of years ago when the shop closed down and reopened as an independent department in our local department store. The staff remained the same and were and have always been attentive and brilliant with our children, both of whom have slim feet. The department store are now closing down this shoe department so we will have no Stompers at all. We are at a loss to be honest. Clarks shoes do not fit our children at all. We refuse to buy cheap shoes as a) they do not last and b) are waaay to wide anyway.
Unfortunately, Norwich is too far to come just for a pair of shoes. We are heading to Bury St Edmunds on Saturday to see if we can get some there. To the owners of Stompers, if you read this, Colchester are in need and would welcome you back for sure.

Worst customer service ever! As my daughter has only just started reception she has worn the school shoes that I purchased from stompers for two hours a day for less than two weeks. She hasn't even been on the playground yet and hasn't walked to school. The shoes are wrecked, so I took them back and was told they are wrecked due to wear and tear!! As I say she has worn them for two hours a day for less than two weeks! They were rude and stubborn, nothing like the attitude they'd shown when I was spending nearly £60 buying the shoes!
The staff in schuh told me they would give a refund for shoes like that as they are clearly not fit for purpose. I will shop in schuh for my kids shoes in future, never stompers, and recommend anyone else to do the same.

My child has wide feet and the assistant/manager brought three pairs of perfectly suitable shoes none of whichever were too tight (which is a nice change). No time wasting trying on lots of unsuitable shoes. The time we went was quiet and 'off season' for school shoes but I would not hesitate to go here again.

Was requesting about a Vacancy today over the phone, I kept my cool the entire time, but as soon as I asked "Do you have any vacancies" the so called "Manager" just went "sorry no Goodbye" and hung up!

I didn't even get to say "well thank you for your time" or anything.

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TONOT APPLY FOR IN THE FUTURE IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT IT!

This is coming from an Agency Vacancy that was offered to me too.

Avoid this shop!!!!
Bad customer service very rude staff when trying to get a refund! Wouldn't give money back only a credit note even though I was within the refund time said my son had worn them when they hadn't even been out of box!

Our son has wide feet with a high arch.
Other high street shops have nothing for him.
At stompers we get quality shoes (expensive) , that fit well, look good and he likes to wear. With young children it is so important getting it right. And they do for our son. We return regularly to check his size and fit. Always have a selection of styles and colours for us to choose from. Worth every penny. Will keep going for years I am sure!

Believe the other 1 Star reviews..
This shop has no feelings for the customers, they just care about the money.
Will not be visiting this shop again, my daughter (aged 7) received another pair of shoes from my mother which she preferred, so I went to take the shoes I bought from stompers back they said I cannot take them back because they have been worn, the only time they were worn is when she tried them on inside the shop!

Well where do I need to start. Bought my daughter a pair of black shoes from stompers. The sales assistant at the time couldn't kiss my ar*e enough and my daughter walked up and down the carpet several times (as advised by the sales assistant). I purchased the shoes (£58) and the only time my daughter fitted the shoes on again was to show her father. We came to the decision the shoes were too long in the foot. This is when the problems started when returning the shoes.
The following Saturday I returned the shoes and was accused of returning unsellable shoes and they said my daughter had worn them. The soles were perfect and they had only been on her feet for literally seconds. After a very long (unpleasant) exchange of words, they would not give me a refund and basically i'm a liar in both the owner and kiss ar*e sales assistant eyes. I would STRONGLY advise to stay away from this shop as it is not as it seems. Doesn't deserve one star.

WARNING: Do not buy shoes from here if you are unsure on the fit and feel, you will never get your money back after making the purchase; they do not have the customers in mind.
DO NOT BUY FROM HERE, ANYWHERE IS BETTER.

Great shop, went last week and bought sandals for both my children and shoes for my son. They were helpful, friendly and attentive. They are expensive shoes, but I have found they well out last clarks, they dont fall apart and they fit for ages. I feel the review about the 1 week refund is not very fair. This is a small shop and legally they dont have to offer a refund if you change your mind, if you buy shoes at Office you get a credit note even if you take back the same day ( I Know as this happened to me!!!). I was at the shop and saw the sign above the till explaining their policies on refunds. So I think Stompers are being very reasonable.
I give them 5 stars!!! 29/4/14

I've got 3 children and been coming to stompers for school shoes & casual shoes for 5 years now. My daughters feet grow at an alarming rate so we've had problems at other shoe shops with her growing out of shoes every 2-3 weeks! Stompers always fit as generously as they can & give good advice about which style will give the best support & growing room for each of my children.

There's usually a good selection of styles but not cheap. I've found the shoes they stock last much longer though than other brands of tried so worth the initial cost in the long run.

I'd highly recommend them.

Stompers alert! you only have 1 WEEK to return shoes if you want a full refund. Otherwise expect a credit note only valid for a year.
I only found this out when after 2 weeks I wanted to return a pair of sandals I bought for my child. The shop assistant didn't mention this at the time, only that the sandals could be tried at home with a pair of socks on!

I bought a pair ok child's timberland deck shoes which my child had for less than 2 months costing £52 to which the stitching came undone. Stompers refused to change putting the cause of damage down to ware and tear which is ridiculous on a 7 week old pair of shoes. Not great for exchanges or refunds when faulty would advise on getting your shoes else where if the sell the same version :(

Avoid this shop like the plague. They are very unhelpful when trying to return some ecco shoes for my daughter. They said that my 2 year old shoes were ok, when I had to take her to the doctors because of a terrible red mark on the bottom of her foot! This took a long time to recover and all Stompers could say that they could feel nothing wrong with the shoes when you can see that the sole inside is raised on the right foot. They clearly know nothing about shoes and childrens feet!!!
