I had a brief look on the vets for pet sites and I didn't see an option to contact them except generically, through WhatsApp, so im going to copy this message in. I'd prefer to be able to speak directly with somebody who can take action rather than the message being passed down.
My dog had eaten a grape, at about 4 pm, and grapes are poisonous for dogs. it was only one grape and he is quite a large dog so perhaps he would have been okay, however, I didn't want to take the risk, so they treated the situation as an emergency and he was given medication to make him sick, and the grape was recovered, which was great, from that point on my concerns were somewhat alleviated. I was given advice, paid the bill and was on my way. A little while later I got a phone call from one of the vets to add that there was a further option if I wanted to consider it, which was activated charcoal. I said yes, that's probably a good idea, but by this time I was some distance away from the surgery, and I would make my way there as soon as possible, activated charcoal is more effective the sooner it is administered and I understand it is virtually ineffective in under a day, so to be effective it needed to be administered that evening. Just before the surgery closed at 7, which to be fair I hadn't checked, I got another phone call saying they had the medication at the desk and could I be there in the next 10 to 15 minutes before they closed, I said yes I could, and I was there in 9 minutes, but when I got there the surgery was closed and nobody was there, so my dog did not get the activated charcoal, incidentally the charge for the charcoal was paid via a WhatsApp system. I was in a quandary whether to stop the car to make the payment or to continue driving and get there sooner, I did however make the payment and drove on. Activated charcoal maybe considered to be important to prevent the situation turning ugly, luckily he is fine. however given the nature of the medication and its purpose, it seemed to me that, as I had managed to keep within their time frame that medication should have been made available. I will be interested in comments from the surgery.
